Cheney Goes Ape

Ok so Dick Cheney has finally come clean and announced his insanity for all to hear. In fact he screamed it out loud. How else are we to understand the lunacy of his assertion that he is not part of the executive branch of government? All our children will now be thoroughly confused, after all they are taught about the separation of powers and the constitution’s three part government structure. Now apparently there’s a hitherto undisclosed fourth part: Dick Cheney.

His rationale is that since he has legislative duties, as President of the Senate, he is really a legislator. But he is a very special legislator because he backs up the President in the executive branch. And a result he is neither one nor the other and thus not covered by niceties such as security and secrecy rules that have been written and signed by the President.

This change to the constitution may come as a surprise to you, as I’m sure it did to many. But any Cheney watcher would have known something was up long ago. He has, for instance, long denied that the people who have oversight of security in the government oversee him. His office routinely refuses to cooperate with the security officers whose job it is to protect state secrets: apparently they have no power over Cheney-land. This is despite the fact that the executive order the security folks were trying to implement was written by the current White House and signed by George Bush. If I get this right Cheney is basically saying that his office is not covered by orders from the President. Or any other laws at all. Nope. Dick Cheney has discovered an entirely new branch of government all for himself.

Mercifully most sane people see that Dick has finally imploded into a pile of worm ridden nonsense. George Bush nonetheless can be counted on to give Cheney his full support since he most likely doesn’t understand what’s going on anyway. The two of them are now so totally cut off from reality that they almost, but not quite, deserve our sympathy. It must be lonely in the bubble nowadays as Congress digs and scraps at the lies and twisted logic that litter the past six years of misrule.

On a bright note: Rahm Emmanual has introduced legislation to de-fund Cheney’s office except for the piece that supports him as Senate President. So in a perverse kind of way Dick is contributing to rolling back the Bush deficits. Way to go Dick!

Lastly: we all need now to think of a title for this new branch of government. In view of Dick’s pathological desire for secrecy maybe he is the “Forbidden Branch”?
