Supreme Court Bashes Anti-Trust Laws

I haven’t had the time to keep up on this site, but there is so much to say I had to comment on a few things today.

First up: our Supreme Court today struck a mighty blow for big business and anti-consumerism. they decided that companies can create a floor for the price of their products. Here’s the New York Times comment: Justices End 96-Year-Old Ban on Price Floors

This may look arcane, but think about it for a moment. What this means is that it will be harder for discounters to offer really low prices, because product makers will be able to refuse to distribute goods to them if they sell the product too low. This decision is an open invitation for producers to raise prices to inflate profits and shaft consumers. The decision strikes down a rule that had been in place for ninety-six years. That’s an activist judiciary at work. No one whose interest is the consumer lobbied for this decision, only big business did.

Score a big one for big business and their Republican supporters.
