The “Pig Book”

This is a must read for everyone who wonders where those deficits come from. It is the annual “Pig Book” published by Citizens Against Government. Read it and weep: Citizens Against Government Waste:

There is enough egregious nonsense here to keep you all laughing over that beer. How about Alaska’s famous ‘Berry Research Project’ which is a relative lightweight at $1,300,000. Or how about the grant of $300,000 to the Oquirrh Institute out there in Utah? Never heard of it have you? That’s because it has never done anything: it was founded in 2002 and has not produced a single piece of research despite having received $550,000 of public money so far … did I mention that it has managed to raise the princely sum of $500 from non-government sources?

My personal favorite: the $13,500,000 given to the International Fund for Ireland one of whose projects was the ‘World Toilet Summit’.

Money down the drain?

It would be funny if it weren’t our money!
