Joklahoma? Sally Reveals the Real Causes of Our Recession.
I normally don’t do this here.
But.
This is just plainly stupid. It is so far from anything even vaguely sensible, legitimate, or responsible that I had a hard time taking it seriously.
But.
This is Oklahoma after all. A state with its rather full quota of lunatics and fringe idiots.
So with no further ado, I present to you: the real causes of the recession according to Oklahoma State Representative Sally Kern.
Not the collapse of banking. Not sub-prime loans. Not over zealous de-regulation. Not the illusion of derivatives. Not even the silliness of AIG. None of these things.
Nope.
The recession was caused, according to our redoubtable Sally by … debauchery. Or more precisely:
“abortion, pornography, same sex marriage, sex trafficking, divorce, illegitimate births, child abuse, andmany other forms of debauchery”
Aaah. I see now. No wonder I have had a hard time with all those green shoots. I wasn’t searching the Bible. Silly me. None of these great causes of recession appear in any of my economics textbooks. Rats.
I have no doubt that Sally is a very earnest person. Perhaps she even believes this stuff. And perhaps the moon really is made of green cheese.
The only problem I have with Sally’s ardor is that it reveals a side of America I would prefer to ignore. There are people who think like this all over the world. Some of them are very important. But mercifully their ranks are thinning.
Except here. In America they are a very vocal and large minority. They wield great power. And they have cowed the media into giving them a dignified hearing. We are told to ‘respect people of faith’.
Rubbish.
Oklahoma was the state that recently passed a resolution banning Richard Dawkins the world famous evolutionary biologist from speaking at the state university because he teaches things that contradict the Bible story of the origins of life. Fortunately the university let him speak anyway – to thunderous applause.
And now this.
How are we going to get this country to overcome its economic problems, or any other problems for that matter, if people like Sally can waste public money and time passing, or attempting to pass, absolutely inane legislation like this ‘bill’?
There’s a joke here somewhere.
Either Sally is just having some bible thumping fun at our godless expense. Or Oklahoma is a joke.
Unfortunately I fear it’s the latter.
