G.O.P. Senator Predicts Gonzales Will Quit

The pressure is building on Gonzo:G.O.P. Senator Predicts Gonzales Will Quit – New York Times

My question is why all the other Republican Senators continue to put their party before their national loyalty. It is obvious by now, to anyone who has followed this scandal, that Gonzales has corrupted the Department of Justice to an unprecedented degree. It is dysfunctional at the moment. The country cannot have one of its most important bulwarks against terrorism, and, more importantly, its enforcer of the rule of law, to become a mere appendage of White House policy making. Even in our era of divise Bush style politics some institutions should be above the fray. DoJ is one of them.

Unfortunately our divider-in-chief doesn’t see it that way and continues to cling to his moronic and self-aggrandizing hyper-political ways. The center of this scandal is the way in which Bush installed a total toady – Gonzales – at Justice in order to make sure that the illegality of much of his post 9/11 fear based program was uncontested. His side-kick Karl Rove also saw the added benefit of a politically supine DoJ in his ability to fire [indirectly of course!] any US Attorneys who did not aid the Rovian election schemes.

Justice deserved better.

So do we.

Gonzales should go into oblivion and then we should focus on getting Rove to account for his meddlesome, and shameful, co-option of our justice system for Republican political gain.

Fish stink from the head. Washington really stinks right now.
