Climate Change

The United Nations has just released its Climate Change report. Unfortunately it’s not happy reading. Here is the analysis from the New York Times:Panel Issues Bleak Report on Climate Change

No wonder Al Gore has been nominated for the Nobel Peace prize. Global warming is a stunningly large issue that America has done its best to deny is even a problem. The total lack of policy reaction to the threat presented by greenhouse gas emmissions is yet another instance of the rank stupidity of the Republican Party. Sticking your head in the sand is not a thoughtful response!

Just one piece of information is enough to get our attention: if the Greenland ice sheet were to melt entirely [it is retreating at a rapid pace], then the world’s sea levels would rise by 23 feet. Yes 23 feet. The last time the earth was in that shape dinosaurs roamed and swamps covered large tracts where people now live. 23 feet is a disaster of epic proportions.

Time to get real.

But I suppose this is another of those issues King George will leave for his successor to fix. Ugh!
