House Republicans Unveil New Ethics Plan – New York Times
I hope we aren’t supposed to be impressed. The Republicans are talking about ethics reforms. This is what they have to say, via the New York Times: House Republicans Unveil New Ethics Plan
Now I don’t want to sound cynical, but what chance is there that the Republicans are really serious about reform? I’ll believe it when I see people like Ney getting kicked out, or when the Republican leadership condemns DeLay, or when hell freezes over. It ain’t happening folks. The system is rotten with cash sloshing about. Without systematic reform to eliminate the effects of money dominating elections, and the way in which legislation is presented and voted on, Hastert’s efforts are band aids and window dressing.
This is pathetic, but at least it’s a start. Now let’s get on with the real reforms.
