Senator Reid Part 2 …

The move to take the Senate into closed session signals the start of the Democrat side of the war that began yesterday with the Alito nomination. We can expect all out partisan warfare from now on. Bush needs a fight to shore up his extremist supporters who had begun to bail out after Katrina and Miers. The Democrats need a fight to wake up their troops in advance of the mid-term elections in 2006. This will be an especially venomous exchange because of the extreme drift of the Republicans. It will be interesting to see if the so-called centrists [Senators Collins, Snow, Chafee etc] can help bring the Republicans back to the center, where most Americans reside. If not then maybe, just maybe, we have seen the high tide of the Republican surge that began back with Reagan. After all the evangelicals are beginning to look a lot like the Taliban, and I don’t think America is ready for, or wants, that.
